DIVA TaJuan Franklin-Givens
Power couple Mr. Curtis Givens and Mrs. TaJuan-Franklin Givens brought an NYC vibe to this southern city with white tents and candy colors. It was a perfect "five star" scene to display some of the areas finest fashion designers. The benefit event, "Fashion Forecast" was established to offer a fashionable future for women who need assistance in obtaining the proper interview attire to land a new job and career path.
“I love fashion. I always have. And I wanted to do a benefit to give back.“, remarks Mrs. Givens. Her husband, local nightlife mogul Curtis Givens adds, “My motivation to do this event was to first to support my wife’s vision and then to support a charity. My wife enjoys fashion. We both felt Dress for Success was a natural tie-in.“
Tiffany Smith, Fundraising Coordinator, for Dress for Success Memphis has prior history
with both CGI Entertainment and the fashion industry. She used this unique edge to, "bring visibility and awareness" to the non-profit, now celebrating eleven years of service to
women in Memphis. “I have a background in modeling. I’ve been in the fashion industry since I was 16”, Smith notes.
This diverse event hosted local designers from various backgrounds presenting various points of view. From the urban sophisticate to the hardcore hip-hop cat, the runway did not disappoint.
A local style icon himself, Mr. Givens believes, “Retailers like Sneak Peak are bringing a younger, hipper edge to fashion which makes older designers step their game up. The newcomers are forecasting fashion in Memphis now.”
In addition to giving to charity, Mrs. Givens desired to share the secrets that shape her glamorous and iconic style. "A lot of women get discouraged with fashion thinking they have to spend a lot of money to look good."
Her goal was "to present looks and designers tonight for all walks of life…from the high end to the very affordable." She offers these words of advice to any fashionista, "be creative and shop smart."
A check was presented to the charity at the event's end, further communicating the positive things that can happen when we combine our passion, power and influence to promote purposeful endeavors.
The future looks bright for Memphis fashion, Dress for Success , CGI Entertainment, and definitely for DIVA Mrs. TaJuan-Franklin Givens, who, with style and grace, is truly making a difference in Memphis.
